Cass Scenic Railroad State Park offers a wide range of lodging, dining, cultural experiences, and outdoor activities that make it more than just a railroad destination.
Lodging & Nearby Dining
The park features fourteen cabins and a spacious 6,000-square-foot lodge, suitable for solo travelers, families, and even corporate gatherings. Just a short walk away, you’ll find Ellie May’s Ole Mill Restaurant, known for fresh trout, meals, and drinks in a relaxed mountain setting.
Art, Dining & Shopping
Visitors can enjoy a mix of dining and local craftsmanship throughout the park. The Company Store remains a central hub for food, souvenirs, and the on-site museum experience.
At Leatherbark Ford Shops, guests can explore handcrafted goods including paintings, quilts, needlework, blacksmithing, baskets, soaps, and more. This artisans’ co-op is typically open on Saturdays, showcasing local creative work.
Guided tours of the historic town of Cass are also available, offering deeper insight into its preserved company-town heritage. Inside the park, visitors can view a detailed diorama recreating Cass as it appeared during its logging-era peak.
Trails & Outdoor Access
While the park itself does not maintain its own hiking trails, it connects directly to major regional trail systems. The northern end of the Greenbrier River Trail begins in Cass. This 78-mile rail trail is popular for hiking, biking, and horseback riding through scenic West Virginia landscapes.
Cass also sits along the historic Allegheny Trail, a 311-mile north–south route stretching from the Pennsylvania border to the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. It was established in 1972 by the West Virginia Scenic Trails Association and remains a key long-distance hiking route in the region.
Pickin on the Porch
Every Saturday evening from May through October, the park hosts “Pickin’ on the Porch,” a lively community music gathering starting around 5 p.m. Musicians and visitors bring instruments like guitars, banjos, and fiddles—or simply come to listen, sing along, and enjoy the atmosphere.
Horseback Adventures
For a more immersive wilderness experience, visitors can join guided horseback trips with Autumn Breeze Stables. These excursions travel from Silvercreek to the Bald Knob Cabin and Fire Tower, taking about 3.5 hours one way. Guests experience remote mountain wilderness, with meals provided during overnight trips. This type of guided ride is a signature experience found only at Cass and is unique on the East Coast.
